Taco Salad Dinner

Enjoy a lovely evening with Sunland friends beginning with a taco salad dinner prepared by Sunland Volunteers.  After dinner stay to play Mexican Train Dominos with us.  Don't know how to play; we can teach you.  The summer Mexican Train Dominos group will be happy to show us how much fun this game can be!  Tickets are $8 for dinner, beverage and dessert.

Put on by the Arts and Crafts League, this event invites you to clean out your craft cupboards and art supplies, sell them to buy more supplies or donate to the league for a fundraiser.  To sell, tables are $10 and you must sign up early.  www.sunlandartandcraftsleague.com.  This event is free to attend.  You never know what treasures you will find.
 
Ruth Buzzy Happy Hour
Monday, September 23rd, 4-6 p.m. at Auditorium
Come with Sunland friends and neighbors to celebrate the end of summer and beginning of fall!  Comedian Ruth Buzzy played by Jan Sandwich will stop by with a bit of humor and fun.  Hors d'oeuvres provided.  Everyone is also invited to bring their favorite snack to share at your table and your favorite beverage.  Tickets are $5 to cover the hors d'oeuvres and entertainment.

We are kicking off the 2019-20 season with a country dance featuring Julie Lee and the White Rose Band!  Come prepared to have fun with us!  Also available will be $1 food items such as hot dogs, chili, chips, sodas, brownies, etc.  Tickets for this dance will be a "throw-back" price of $6!!!  Tell your friends!  Invite your neighbors!  Everyone is welcome!  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
 
Community Wide Garage Sale
Saturday, November 2nd, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Sunland Village
Over 100 Sunland homes participating.  This event is held twice a year; once in the fall and once in the spring!  This is a free event to participate, just put out your tables and treasures to sell OR check out what your treasures your Sunland neighbors are selling!  Signs will be posted the week of the sale by Sunland Village; however, you are welcome to put out your own Garage Sale sign on your corner on the Friday prior to the Saturday date.  It is also advertised in local free publications and online.

Travel Club Veteran's Day Event
Monday, November 11th, 7 p.m. at Auditorium
Each year the Travel Club puts on a lovely Veteran's Day event open to all residents of Sunland Village.  Tickets will go on sale in October so watch the Journal for details.  This year Jan Sandwich and Nicole Pesce perform a special program "America Hurrah!" with a tribute to George M. Cohan.  The Creative Quilters donate Quilts of Valor during the evening as well.  For more information, see our Travel Coordinator Jody Aubin on Thursday mornings in Room 3 between 9 am - 12 pm.
 
Welcome Back Expo
Wednesday, November 13th, 2:30-4:00 pm at Auditorium
Each year the clubs, class instructors and committees get together with an "Open House" style event in order to share with residents what they have planned for the 2019-20 season.  Sign up for a club or class, offer to help by volunteering or just come to see what Sunland has to offer!  This event is open to all residents whether you are new to the community or have lived here for many years!  There is always something new going on!  The first 100 through the doors will receive a ticket for a free soft pretzel!
 
Welcome Back Barbecue
Wednesday, November 13th, 5 p.m. at Auditorium
After the Welcome Back Expo, the Auditorium is transformed into a family style dining room serving up fresh bbq'd hamburgers Catered by Ed and music by the Montana Guy.  Tickets are $8 and can be purchased in advance from the Sunland office or at the Expo until Sold Out.  So stick around after the Expo and have dinner with social time with us!
 
Arts and Crafts Fair

The Sunland Art League puts on an outstanding Arts and Crafts Fair twice a year.  The fall date is perfect to come and shop for the holidays from over 100 vendors who have handmade items.  The Sunland Women's Club opens up their Cafe in the morning with donuts & coffee, homemade pies and a large lunch menu!  Other vendors include Kettle Corn, Ice Cream, fresh breads from local bakery, wine tasting and more.  Music is offered in a couple locations throughout the day!  Location of vendors includes Auditorium, Rooms 3&4, S. Parking Lot and along walkways to grass area near the bandshell.  Free to attend!

Sunland Car Show
Saturday, November 23rd, 10 am at South Parking Lot
Put on by the Off Broadway Players!  Do you have a classic, vintage or unique vehicle or motorcycle?  Then mark your calendar to enter it in the Second Annual Car Show!  Applications will be available in September.  Besides coming to see the cars, this event will include food, music, vendors and more.  Everyone is invited.  First preference will be given to Sunland car owners since space is limited.
 
Christmas Tree Lightening
Monday, December 2nd, 5 p.m. at Auditorium*
This free community event is to kick off the lighting of the outdoor Christmas tree located in *front of the Auditorium.  Christmas carols provided by the Sunland Songsters.  Hot chocolate and cookies provided by the Special Event Committee.  Come and socialize with us!  This is a free event for residents.
 
Songster's Holiday Concert
Saturday, December 7th to Sunday, December 8th at Auditorium
Sunland Songsters offers two concerts per year, one in December and one in March.  The Saturday performance is at 7 p.m. and the Sunday performance at 2 p.m.  Your ticket is good for either day and time.  Ticket prices will be available in the fall.

New Year's Eve Dinner Dance

Great Gatsby!  It's the Roaring 20's Again!  Celebrate in style (1920's dress encouraged) and say good bye to 2019 and welcome 2020 with us!  Doors open at 5 p.m. for social time with your friends, bring your own beverages.  Dinner Catered by Ed is served at 6 p.m. buffet style.  Menu will be finalized by the time tickets go on sale.  Music for dancing will be provided by Gordy and Debbie.  We are celebrating New York time (EST) with a live broadcast on the big screen.  Count down at for 10 p.m. (MST) with us!

New to Sunland Village is Greg Ansel, Storm Chaser.  Greg is an Arizona resident who chases storms for a living!  This lively and amazing visual presentation covers tornados, monsoon storms, haboobs and more!  Seats are limited; so purchase your tickets as soon as they go on sale on December 1.  Only $5 which includes dessert and coffee.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dessert served at 6 p.m. and presentation begins at 6:30 p.m.
 
Highland High Starlight Serenade

Coming back to Sunland is our very favorite string orchestra from Highland High School.  Director by Bill Bitter, this group of 50-60 talented musicians is something to experience!  Tickets are $8 which includes light dessert and coffee.  Tickets will be limited to seating available (240) so purchase early.  They will go on sale December 1.

Dave & Daphne hale from Nashville, Tennessee!  They return to Sunland Village with an all new performance and show!  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, all seats reserved.
 
Songster's Spring Concert
Saturday, March 21st to Sunday, March 22nd at Auditorium
Sunland Songsters offers two concerts per year, one in December and one in March.  The Saturday performance is at 7 p.m. and the Sunday performance at 2 p.m.  Your ticket is good for either day and time.  Ticket prices will be available in the fall. 
 
Community Wide Garage Sale
Saturday, March 21st, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Auditorium
Over 100 Sunland homes participating.  This event is held twice a year; once in the fall and once in the spring!  This is a free event to participate, just put out your tables and treasures to sell OR check out what your treasures your Sunland neighbors are selling!  Signs will be posted the week of the sale by Sunland Village; however, you are welcome to put out your own Garage Sale sign on your corner on the Friday prior to the Saturday date.  It is also advertised in local free publications and online.
 
Ice Cream Social
Tuesday, March 24th, 6 p.m. at Auditorium
Build your own ice cream sundae (3 scoops and toppings) followed by musical entertainment by Rich Mancini.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets $5 advance (no tickets sold at the door).  This event is offered to Sunland residents only.
 
Reign n Country Dance
Friday, March 27th, 7-10 pm at Auditorium
The east valley's favorite country band brings a variety of music to dance to!  Soda and Popcorn available.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are $7 advance/$8 at the door. Cowboy attire optional!
 
Pizza Party
Monday, March 30th, 6 p.m. at Auditorium
Join us for a pizza and salad buffet provided by LJ's Pizza.  Tickets are $10 which includes beverage and light sweet treat.  Deadline to purchase is noon on Friday, March 27.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
 
Women's Club Luncheon
Wednesday, April 8th, 12 p.m. at Auditorium
This last luncheon event of the 2019-20 season invites members to come and bid farewell to friends until next fall.  This meeting luncheon is also where membership votes for the next Board. We Need You!  The Sunland Women's Club is a Chartered Club with a mission that all fundraising monies go back to improvements for the community.
 
Tribute to Peggy Lee
Wednesday, April 15th, 6:30 pm at Auditorium
Jan Sandwich with 2 live musicians perform a fitting tribute to the great Peggy Lee.  Tickets are $8 each and includes a root beer float!  Doors open at 6 p.m.
 
Art League Food Truck Event
Saturday, April 18th, 6-9 pm at Auditorium
This is the 3rd annual Spring evening event put on by the Art League.  This event features local Food Trucks, specialized vendors and music.  But most of all, this event is an opportunity for the community to come out and socialize together.  Tables and chairs are set up for eating and gathering.  Take a moment to visit the artisans who bring their unique handmade items to purchase.  Music is always nice too.  Free entrance; just support the vendors.
 
Dessert Speaker Series
Monday, April 27th, 6 p.m. at Auditorium
Bill Harrison, Arizonan Historian returns with a new set of presentations.  Dessert and coffee are included!  Tickets are $5 each.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
