Hiking Club
The Sunland Village Hiking club is open to any Sunland Village resident who wishes to explore the beautiful landscapes of the Valley of the Sun. The club hikes every TUESDAY MORNING starting in November and ending in April. We offer a schedule of hikes with varying degrees of difficulty and attempt to accommodate novice as well as experienced hikers.
We meet at the SLV Auditorium parking lot, take a census of hikers, form car pools and head out as a group to hike. Each hiker should be prepared to carry a liter of water and should wear boots specifically designed for hiking. The trails are very rocky with lots of loose scree. We do look out for each other on our hikes, but ultimately each hiker is responsible for their own safety and will need to assess their fitness before embarking on a hike. Be prepared to hike a minimum of 4 miles – most of our excursions are 3 ½ - 7 miles. We employ the buddy system so no hiker is left alone and the more experienced hikers embrace helping others learn to enjoy hiking in a desert climate. There is no club fee, but we do suggest tipping our carpool drivers.
